Mahadasha and Antardasha, Explained Simply

July 05, 2026

The Vimshottari dasha system divides a life into planetary periods, running 120 years in total. Each major period (mahadasha) is ruled by one planet and subdivided into sub-periods (antardashas).

The starting dasha is set by the Moon's nakshatra at birth. That is why two people with the same Sun sign can be in completely different phases at the same time.

A dasha is a theme, not a verdict: a Saturn period tends to reward patience and structure, while a Venus period emphasises relationships and comfort.
